JÉRÔME ESTÈVE : THE NATURE AS BELIEF

On the hillsides overlooking the lagoons and the sea beyond, Chateau Montfin covers roughly 125 acres of stony clay soil swept by strong winds called the «Tramontane».
We came here nearly 20 years ago with the objective of producing wines that are elegant, lively and refreshing.
Our philosophy: control the yield, embrace bio, work the land and harvest manually proving that it is altogether possible to work with precision while respecting nature.
Always curious, rediscovering vines, land to replant, recently experimenting with making wine in amphoras and batches with no added sulphites.
Come and share a moment of harmony and pleasure. Discover our wines that faithfully express the beauty of our region and our way of life.

A CULTURE OF EXIGENCE

Since the beginning we have taken extreme care of the environment, our working methods reflect our willingness to partner and protect nature.
From working the land to bottling the wine we strive to create wines that demonstrate our philosophy, translate our know-how and best express the identity of the region we love and admire.

A UNIQUE WINE GROWING AREA

We have numerous plots of vines; some have a southerly exposure others south-west; some are on the plateaus, others in the garrigue. They shape the undulating landscape of our region.
The soil is clay-limestone carpeted with large pebbles thus providing a constant supply of water to our vines. During the day the large pebbles absorb the sun’s heat and are then able to warm the vines’ roots once night has fallen.
Our vineyards have the benefit of a dry, hot, sunny Mediterranean climate, conducive to the slow growth cycles of the vine. Throughout the year the regular north wind dries the vines and encourages the photosynthesis. In spring and autumn wind blowing off the sea brings humidity and rain.

A SINCLE-MINDED APPROACH, A MULTI-FACETED NATURE

For us, soil, vine and the hand of man are inseparable. The wine must tell of its origin (land and climate), impregnate itself with the characteristics of the grape with the help of the wine maker watching, listening, caring for it, and orchestrating each stage of the vinification in the winery. With the strength of our environmental processes and beliefs, we embrace biological wine making, a re-enforcement of the ecosystem of our vines, and the partial use of biodynamic farming principles.
